Pet Insurance FAQs
What is the difference between lifetime, maximum benefit and time limited pet insurance?
Lifetime cover means your pet will be continuously covered for chronic or recurring illnesses, so long as you renew the policy every year. This type of cover is the only one available when you buy directly from us. Maximum benefit and time-limited cover are available via price comparison websites.
Maximum benefit refers to the maximum benefits we’ll pay for each condition covered under your policy (shown in your certificate of insurance). After this, we won’t make any further claims payments for that condition or any bilateral, recurring or related conditions.
Time-limited cover is when each condition is only covered for 12 months calculated from the first date of treatment or until the maximum benefit is paid for that condition, whichever occurs first. The maximum benefits we’ll pay for each condition are shown in your certificate of insurance. After this, we won’t make any further claims payments for that condition or any bilateral, recurring or related conditions.
Is my pet eligible for John Lewis Pet Insurance?
If your cat or dog is at least 8 weeks old, they could be eligible for John Lewis Pet Insurance.
Once you've taken out a policy, you’re not able to claim for vet fees as a result of accidents that happen in the first 3 days or illness within the first 14 days. If you switch to John Lewis Pet Insurance and can show your previous policy runs up to the start date, we can waive the initial exclusion periods for you.
Does pet insurance cover vaccinations?
Pet insurance doesn’t usually cover vaccinations as they are considered to be routine. It’s important to keep your pet’s vaccinations up to date for their own safety. If your pet becomes unwell and needs treatment because they have missed a vaccination, you may not be able to make a claim.
Does pet insurance cover neutering?
No. These routine procedures don’t involve treating your pet for illness or injury, so aren't covered by our policy. However, if your vet recommends neutering/spaying to treat a condition (e.g. Pyometra or testicular tumour), the cost of this can be covered.
