Student cover
A bit of extra support for your loved ones
If your pride and joy is heading off to study at a UK or Republic of Ireland university, college or school, you can help support them with student cover.
It's available as an optional extension for our Bronze, Silver or Gold policies, and is specifically designed with students in mind.
What's covered?
Student cover will pay up to £5,000 for any one claim. That includes a maximum for any one item of up to £1,500, unless otherwise stated below, or set out in your policy documents. So it's important to read them in full before taking out a policy.
Some examples include
Printers, electronic data downloads and film downloads - £1,500 total limit
Business equipment, including laptops used for business purposes - £500 total limit
DVDs, CDs, records - £500 total limit
Bicycle - £500 limit
Money - £200 limit
Credit, debit, charge or cash dispenser cards - £1,000 limit
Sports equipment - £500 limit
Your child is also covered for personal possessions, valuables, money, and bikes, up to the cover limits shown in the policy wording, that are damaged or stolen while on their person and kept within reach of their person, while out and about.
Bikes need to be securely locked up whenever they’re not being used. There’s handy info on which bike locks we require you use in the policy documents.
Motorised bikes, e-bikes and e-scooters are not covered.
What’s already covered in a contents insurance policy?
Our standard Bronze, Silver or Gold contents insurance includes cover for contents against escape of water, theft, vandalism, and damage caused by fire, storms or falling trees - as long as your contents are in your home. If any member of your family leaves their contents in your home, they will be covered by our standard contents insurance.
However, for any items left in their student accommodation to be covered while temporarily away from home, you would need student cover.
What's not covered with Student cover?
There are some losses that are not covered, for example any theft or damage to items when the student accommodation is unoccupied for 60 days or more. So it's a good idea to make sure they bring all their important belongings home with them for the holidays.
A full list of exclusions can be found in our policy documents.
