No claims discount protection
Your no claims discount rewards you for driving safely, by giving you a reduction on the cost of your car insurance based on each year you don't make a claim.
Once you have four or more years of no claims discount, we’ll give you the opportunity to protect it with our no claims discount protection. Just pay a little extra on your premium, and you can make as many as two claims on your car insurance in any three-year period without reducing your no claims discount.
Please note that whenever a claim is made on your policy, your price may increase at renewal.
How your no claims discount works
The more years you have without a claim, the greater the discount you’ll receive - up to a maximum of nine years.
As standard with your John Lewis Money Car Insurance policy, your no claims discount won’t be affected if the damage to your car was caused by:
An act of vandalism
An uninsured driver (so long as the conditions set out in our policy wording regarding ‘uninsured driver protection’ are met)
An accident that’s not your fault and the insurer has been able to recover the cost of your claim from the driver of the vehicle involved or their insurer
An incident clearly outside of your control - such as your car being hit whilst parked or damage caused by a pothole. Other incidents, including collisions with animals while driving, may still affect your discount depending on the circumstances and the insurer’s assessment.
Can you move your no claims discount between insurance providers?
Any time you buy a new car or switch insurance provider, you can take your no claims discount with you.
Switching your policy to John Lewis money is simple, just get a quote online.
If you buy a new car to replace an existing one on your policy, the no claims discount applicable to the old car automatically transfers to your new car. However, if you buy an additional car, it will have to earn its no claims discount. This is unless you have a no claims discount that hasn’t yet been used for a car you sold within the last two years.
What proof do you need?
We won’t usually require you to provide proof of your no claims discount from another provider.
When it’s time to renew your policy with us, we’ll send you a renewal notice. This will state how many years no claims discount you’ve earned on that policy at that point. This will be based on:
The no claims discount transferred when you purchased a policy with us
The length of time you’ve been insured with us
Any reductions applied for claims made
